[Interview] Maxime Patenotte, Teezily seller
Hello Maxime, what else do you do alongside Teezily ?
Hi there ! As well as Teezily I am in the first year of a Masters in Business Management at INSEEC in Bordeaux. I will be starting my second year shortly.
Why did you choose to use the Teezily system?
I have known about Teezily since it started, and I've always thought the project was great ! After having been in contact with the team, in particular Charles (CEO), I realised the possibilities that launching a campaign could bring. What I like about the campaign system, is that I literally had nothing to lose, so it cost me nothing to try!
Tell us about your first Teezily campaign
It was a year ago now, my very first campaign was aimed at « party animals » , and it wasn't too great... I used a really simple design, to be honest it was practically copied, and made to target as many people as possible. I launched it at the same time as another friend who discovered Teezily at the same time as me. I think that between us, we sold one t-shirt. Thankfully, as I talk to you now, Teezily has given its Zilers access to marketing tools and video guides that have helped my second campaign to be much more successful!
What do you mean when you say much more successful?
I launched my campaign for two weeks at the end of March with a goal of 25 products (sweaters, unisex t-shirts or ladies v-neck t-shirts). It's now one day after the end of my campaign and I have sold 138 products, giving me over £1,500 (€2,000) in profits.
Indeed, that's certainly something! Tell us a bit more about your campaign?
Everything started by choosing my niche, I found it whilst watching the lunch time news (that's not even a joke!)
Afterwards, I set about creating a simple yet attractive and appealing design. The day came to launch my campaign so I joined lots of facebook groups made up of my target community and relating to their interests. I shared links and did some advertising to admins and members of the groups to make the campaign visible and viral... It's definitely not easy and sometimes even demoralising when you look at the ratio between work and results. However, if you want to spread your campaign without spending too much, there's really no another way.
By the second day, I had shared my campaign far and wide and managed to make my first sale, so decided to invest in Facebook adversiting (priced at £7). Using the videos available on Teezily, namely the Teezily Webinar, I learnt how to target my audience more efficiently and advertise in a way that was more in line with my target audience and highlighted relevant specific charecteristics. From the very first day I made sales, so kept on investing on Facebook ads every 24 hours until the last day (£7-£10 for week days, then £15-£20 at weekends)
Results after two weeks :
- I invested £145 (200€)
- I earned £1,465 (2010,66€)
I wasn't expecting the campaign to be so successful ! What's more, the advertising allowed me to create a pretty dynamic community around my niche, already asking me to relaunch my campaign or add new products which is just amazing!
Nicely done! What was the most difficult phase of your campaign for you to implement?
I have a good idea of marketing and sales, and understanding the Facebook Ads took me hardly any time at all. The tricky part of my campaign was during the first phase however : the design. I 'm not an expert at things like Photoshop, Illustrator, or even Gimp at all! I'v definitely abused my poor Paint program too. Thankfully, a friend helped me out, and within a few minutes the job was done
For those less lucky than myself, the Teezily team are ready to give you a hand and support new Zilers like me chasing their goals, so I knew that the staff were always ready to help me during this particular stage.
What part of launching your campaign was the most enjoyable for you?
In all honesty, creating a community is a real reward! I've now got more than 700 people on my page who are constantly thanking me and complementing my products, it's definitely flattering ! With that, I kept checking my Analytics to keep track of the number of people who visited my campaign, the number of orders made and items ordered, it's pretty encouraging!
Do you have any stories that made a mark on you during your campaign?
A short time ago, I moved back to Paris from Bordeaux. I remember moving on the Sunday, and the time it took to fill the car and do the six hour drive, I was selling t-shirts, without even doing a thing! That same day, 10 orders were made of 15 items... I earned over £100 (€150) sleeping in the car ! I'd say that's quite an achievement!
It definitely is! What advice would you give to those who are holding back?
First and foremost, you have absolutely NOTHING to lose. So if you create your campaign but don't make a sale after the first week , does it matter? The worst case scenario is that you've wasted a bit of time creating your campaign and sharing it on Facebook/ Twitter/ Instagram. The best advice I can give you is to take your time when analysing your niche and your design. If both of these elements are right, there's no reason why you won't be successful!
Additionally, for me, the essential of successfully carrying out your Teezily campaign is making use of the Ads Manager at your disposal on Facebook. In one hour, you will know how to attract a large part of your audience to your product, and following this you won't have anything else to do! My daily work was comprised of responding to comments on my facebook post and private messages. What are you waiting for!
